NYH Summer Social & Gear Exchange

John M. Barry Boys & Girls Club

August 7, 2019

Join us on August 7th for our summer social and gear exchange. Reconnect with your hockey family and get equipped for the upcoming season. New to NYH? Stop by to talk about our programs and get everything you need to get started in the fall.

Do you have extra gear cluttering up your garage that no longer fits your growing hockey player? Use the links below to list it for sale or donate it to support NYH.

Finally, please consider volunteering to help make this event happen!

VOLUNTEER - Sign up for an option that fits your schedule and support this event.

SELL - List items for sale at the event. You set the price, deliver the goods, and anything that doesn’t sell will be returned to you.

DONATE - Just looking to get rid of stuff? We’ll sell it at a bargain price to support youth hockey. Anything left over will be kept by NYH for future initiatives or will be donated to charity.

Please feel free to share with non-NYH families who may be interested in coming to this event and learning more about NYH. For more information and updates, check out our facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/NewtonYouthHockey

Registration open for Bruins Learn to Play

Attention all Newton Youth Hockey LTS and rising LTP parents:

The NHL has opened registration for Fall 2019 Bruins Learn to Play Hockey sessions. This is a great program for new-to-hockey kids born 2010-2014. There is even an all girls session in Waltham!

This program runs for four weeks starting in late September and includes a full set of equipment. It’s a great way to get geared up for the season and to get some fun ice time in before NYH Learn to Play starts later in the fall.

If your child is interested, it is recommended that you sign up soon as sessions fill up fast!

Kind regards,

Director, NYH LTS

The 2019-2020 season is upon us!

While it doesn’t feel like hockey weather, work for next season has already begun. Equipment is being purchased, uniforms are being ordered, and our ice schedule is being secured.

As Todd has already noted, today marks the turnover for many of us at the board level. I am particularly grateful for the service of Todd and our board, under whom NYH has continued to refine its program to deliver an amazing experience for players at all levels. Thank you to all of you who have served on our board over the years and to those of you who have stepped forward to help out for this coming season.

My goals as President are to continue building on the great foundation already in place and to add events and programs that have demonstrated demand and committed volunteers. Our first such event will be a gear sale and swap in early August that will serve as the informal kickoff to the season. More information on this event will follow soon, as will a call for volunteers. Thanks to a dedicated group of parents, this season will also mark the introduction of a new girls hockey initiative for players in Mites and Learn to Play.

I can’t emphasize this enough, but nothing at NYH would happen without the efforts of volunteers, including the board, coaches, managers, and countless others who help out along the way. While many of us have grand visions of things we would love to implement, none of them will happen without people stepping forward to put these plans into action.

If you are interested in volunteering but don’t know what role might be a good fit, or if you have any other ideas about how NYH can serve our community better, please feel free to reach out to me directly at president@newtonyouthhockey.com.

Have a fantastic summer, and I look forward to seeing our teams back on the ice in two short months.

New Initiatives For Girls In Mites & Sprites

New for the 2019/2020 season, NYH is excited to introduce a new girl hockey initiative at the U8 age group. In addition to playing with their co-ed Mite and Sprites/Learn to Play teams, our girls will have the opportunity to play several games as a GIRLS U8 TEAM in the Allston Brighton U8 league on Saturday mornings at Cleveland Circle. Our anticipation is that our team will participate in approximately 3-5 games starting in January. We are also exploring additional on-ice and off-ice activities for this group with the goal of growing the participation of girls in all levels of youth hockey.

A small registration fee will be required, but our intention is to keep tuition to a minimum to encourage participation. This program is open to all girls participating in Mites or Learn to Play who have some hockey experience (prior NYH or comparable learn to play programs). Registration will open later this summer. If you have any questions about the program, please contact .
