LTP Cancelled Sunday, 1/20

LTP is cancelled for Sunday 1/20 @ 8-8:50 AM at Daly Rink.

Although the weather forecast no longer incudes 18" of snow, it looks like the driving conditions will be unsafe due to the freezing rain. While we enjoy having you at practice, it is important to us that you travel to the rinks safely.

At this moment, it does not appear as if some of the surrounding rinks are closed; so, if your family would still enjoy some ice time, you may be able to go to Ryan Rink or Daly Rink.

I apologize for the inconvenience, and I appreciate your understanding in this matter. Be sure to stay warm and be safe in this wintry mix.

Best,

Lisa & the entire NYH leadership team

Car Magnet Care

Car Magnet Care

Our products are made of the highest quality. Please follow these simple care instructions to ensure you can enjoy products for a long time.

Clean surface and magnet with detergent before applying. On vehicles - remove and clean magnet and surface weekly. Do not use on horizontal surfaces exposed to direct sunlight (such as automobile hoods). Do not use in temperatures exceeding 150 degrees. Before affixing to metal surface, be sure all paints, clear coats, and waxes are cured (approximate curing time: paint 90 days, clear coat 60 days, wax 2 days). Remove magnet by lifting left to right from surface. Do not pull or stretch magnet across the surface.

Members Evaluation Information

NYH Travel Members,

In further effort to increase transparency with the player roster placements, we’re sharing the evaluation criteria that the coaches use to score the players. The intent is that one head coach and at least one assistant coach completes the form for each player.

Category Item

  1. Skating

  • Balance/Mobility
  • Speed/Quickness
  1. Hands

  • Puckhandling
  • Passing/Receiving
  1. Shooting

  • Accuracy/Velocity
  • Variety
  1. Hockey Sense

  • Anticipation/Instinct
  • Defensive Awareness
  • Offensive Awareness
  1. Competitiveness

  • Intensity
  • Work Ethic
  1. Character

  • Discipline
  • Consistency
  1. Coaches Comments

  • Comments

Each Item is scored 1 thru 10 with 10 being the best. A score of 10 shows mastery of all criteria. A score of 5 would indicate ability to execute all skills adequately. A score of 1 would indicate insufficient skill for the level.
Goalies have different Items and are scored the same way.

Category Item

  1. Stance

  • Movement
  • Skating
  • Form & Agility
  • Covering Angles
  1. Quickness

  • Rebounds & Covering
  • Aggressiveness
  • Recovery
  1. Concentration

  • Commitment
  1. Coaches Comments

  • Comments

You are welcome to share this information with your player as the coaches evaluation process will begin soon.
As a reminder, the intent is that the 2+ coaches ratings carry about 60% of the scoring weight, and the tryout evaluators’ (four or more evaluators over three tryout sessions) scores worth about 40%. Since the coaches are with the players 4-5 months prior to their evaluations, their score carries a bit more weight.

It would be nice if this was a simple math exercise, but it isn’t. Some kids are new to NYH and don’t have a coaches scoring history to count for 60%. Some kids miss tryouts for a variety of reasons. In these cases, we seek additional input where we can.
I hope this helps with your understanding of the process. Let me know if you have questions.

Thanks, and Happy New Year!

Girls February Clinic - Dream Big w/ Lexi Bender

For those looking for Girls hockey activity during the February break.

-----

My name is Lexi Bender, and I am a member of the NWHL’s Boston Pride, as well as a Boston College alumnus.

Freddy Meyer, Owner of Dream Big HockeyStars and former NHL'er, and I are putting together an all-girls skills clinic during the February break (Feb. 19-22), at Flynn Rink in Medford. We held the clinic last year, and the girls brought so much energy that we are adding another day of instruction to the 2019 edition.

The clinic presents an opportunity for a quick mid-season tune-up and will feature skill work, speed, and competitive small area games. Guest coaches with Collegiate, Professional, and Olympic experience will ensure a fun and productive environment, while daily prizes for top campers are sure to spark competition!

Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions!

Registration is available at: http://www.dreambighockeystars.com/girlsclinic

Thank you!

Lexi Bender
